How to choose a Bergamaschi BMS tank or drum?

Bergamaschi BMS is able to suggest and guide the customer in choosing the type of packaging product according to the conditions of storage, handling and transport. The chemical compatibility between the HDPE packaging and your product must be verified. It is also important to carefully verify the compatibility of the contents with the caps and their gaskets.

The density of the product and the handling conditions determine the maximum stacking weight. When the density of the product is higher than 1.3 g / ml, it is necessary to be cautious in defining the stacking height.

Storage of an empty tank or drum

Keep away from sparks and heat sources, such as hot tanks and radiators.
Store in a clean and uncontaminated area.
Avoid storing containers outdoors and exposing them to direct sunlight for a long time since UV radiation degrades polyethylene at a molecular level, making the container structure fragile.
The colored containers (black, blue, etc.) offer greater protection by means of the pigment itself.

Filling of tanks and drums

Avoid damaging or wetting the sealing neck with the filling tube.
The closures must be screwed according to the values ​​(Nw / m) specified on the technical data sheets.
Do not reuse vent seals.
It is advisable to fill the containers to 98% of their capacity, to minimize the air spaces: this prevents the variations in air volume (and therefore in the internal pressure) influenced by temperature, causing the container to swell or to implode, thus reducing the mechanical strength of the structure.
The stacking of the containers must take place as indicated in the technical data sheets.

Hot filling of tanks or drums

Do not stack the tanks or drums that are still warm.
With the increase in temperature, the mechanical characteristics degrade quickly.
A maximum temperature of 80 ° C can be reached for a short period of time (a few hours) without any damage to the mechanical properties of the containers. For longer time intervals it is necessary not to exceed 60 ° C.
Some chemicals liquids may not be compatible with polyethylene when the temperature is above 25 ° C; chemical compatibility must therefore be evaluated at the filling temperature.
To avoid the risk of sagging, good quality pallets must always be used: the bottom of the containers must find an adequate support and must not be supported only partially by the pallet.
After filling: to avoid collapse of the packaging, do not close the cans or drums until the product reaches room temperature.

Handling and storage of full tanks or drums

Use pallets suitable for the size of the package. Avoid letting cans or drums protrude from the pallet itself. Check for nails, sharp points and debris that could damage the cans or drums. Make sure that the end user is informed of these instructions for use.
Tanks and drums with vent caps must be stored vertically.
Stack only cans and drums of the same size.
Avoid excessive tension of the stretch film to prevent the collapse of the cans or drums. During the filming of light weight tanks, protective plastic cartons or corners can be used.

Food substances

Check in advance the organoleptic compatibility for filling and transporting food substances.

Approval and UN mark

The UN mark certifies the compliance of the cans and drums with the UN recommendations and laws (RID / ADR, IMDG) for the transport of dangerous goods.
The approval group (density, packing group, hydraulic pressure) mentioned with the UN mark represents the level of performance for chemical products similar to water.
For other standard liquids the performance level is generally lower.

The hydraulic pressure value displayed on the UN mark corresponds to the maximum pressure with which the tanks and drums, in the testing phase, resist for a maximum period of 30 minutes; the hydraulic pressure value cannot be used as a reference to empty pressurized tanks and drums.
The nominal capacity should be considered as an approximate value.
The stacking tests for approval are performed with a guide load: do not apply these maximum values ​​for stacking.
